  3. About the Installer

  5. Use the Installer to install the printer software on your hard disk. The Installer copies the printer drivers (Serial and AppleTalkﾂｮ) and background printing files to the correct locations in your System Folder. If the installer finds a file that has the same name as the one it is installing, it replaces that file with the most current version.

  9. When the Installer installs the printer software on your hard disk, it also increases the Finder窶冱 memory allocation to 400K for System 7.0 or later versions.

  11. Using the Easy Install

  13. Refer to the HP DeskJet  850C Printer User's Guide for instructions on using the Easy Install.

  15. Using the Customize Option
  16.  
  17. Use the Customize option to install the combination of printer driver files and background printing resources you want to install. You can use this process to install just the AppleTalk version or just the Serial version of the printer driver. To use the Customize option, follow these steps:

  19. 1. Insert the HP DeskJet 850C printer driver disk into the disk drive and
  20.     double-click its icon  to open it.
  21.  
  22. 2. Double-click the Installer icon.
  23.  
  24. 3.    Click the Continue button.
  25.  
  26. 4.    Read the licensing agreement and click "Accept" to continue or "Cancel"
  27.      to quit the installation.
  28.  
  29. 5. Make sure that the hard disk named on the Installer screen is the one on
  30.     which you want to install the printer software. If the wrong hard disk is named,
  31.     click the Switch Disk button until the correct hard disk name appears.

  33. 6. Click on the pop-down menu in the upper left corner and select 窶廚ustom
  34.      Install.窶

  36. 7. Scroll through the list of items and shift-click the ones you want to install.
  37.     As you select items, their names appear in the lower portion of the dialog box.

  40. 窶｢ DJ 850C (Serial) Driver - Serial software for your printer. 
  41. 窶｢ HP Background Print Kit for System 7 - Files for background printing with

  45. 8. Click the Install button to install the selected items.

  47. 9. The Installer may display a warning message. Click the Continue button.
  48.     When the installation process is complete, the Installer displays a message  
  49.     indicating the installation was successful.

  51. 10. Click the Restart button to restart your computer.
